Terms of Service

The rules for using BIG Tools during the student beta.

Student beta. BIG Tools is a free, in-progress workshop tool offered by Private Language during a classroom and cohort beta. Features, content, and availability may change without notice while we learn with students and instructors. If you rely on something here for coursework, keep your own copy.

1. Agreement

By accessing or using BIG Tools (the “Service”) at bigtools.dev, you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the Service. BIG Tools is operated by Private Language (“we”, “us”).

2. Who can use BIG Tools

BIG Tools is intended for students, instructors, and facilitators participating in BIG Ideas workshops, cohorts, and classes. You must be at least 16 years old, or the minimum age your instructor or institution permits, to create an account. If you’re using BIG Tools through a school or workshop, your instructor’s rules apply alongside these terms.

3. Your account

You’re responsible for your account, for keeping your credentials secure, and for activity that happens under your account. Don’t share your account with someone else, and let us know if you think it’s been compromised.

4. Your ideas and content

You own what you put into BIG Tools — your prompts, notes, insights, frameworks, pitches, and everything you build with the tools. We don’t claim ownership of your content.

To run the Service, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive license to host, store, copy, process, and display your content strictly so we can operate BIG Tools for you. We use third-party providers (listed in our Privacy Policy) to do that, and your content may pass through their systems under their terms.

We don’t use your personal content to train foundation AI models. We may review anonymized, aggregated usage (for example, how often a tool is used, or common failure patterns) to improve BIG Tools.

5. AI-generated output

BIG Tools uses large language models through Vercel, OpenRouter, and Anthropic to help generate, critique, and transform your ideas. AI output is probabilistic and imperfect. Treat it as a draft, not an answer. You are responsible for reviewing AI output before relying on it, sharing it, or submitting it for coursework.

Don’t pass AI output off as entirely your own when a course, workshop, or grading policy requires attribution. When in doubt, ask your instructor.

6. Acceptable use

Please don’t use BIG Tools to:

  • Break the law, harass others, or produce content that targets, defames, or endangers real people.
  • Generate sexual content involving minors, incitements to violence, or instructions for creating weapons, malware, or other clearly harmful output.
  • Attempt to extract, reverse-engineer, or redistribute the underlying prompts, models, or proprietary infrastructure.
  • Spam, scrape, or automate the Service in ways that degrade it for others.
  • Upload content you don’t have the right to use, or impersonate someone else.

We may suspend or remove accounts that break these rules, and we’ll try to tell you why when we do.

7. Availability and changes

BIG Tools is beta software. We may add, change, break, or remove features; run experiments; or take the Service offline for maintenance. We may wipe or migrate beta data if we need to. When we can, we’ll give notice and preserve your content; we’ll do our best, but we can’t guarantee it during beta.

8. Our intellectual property

The BIG Tools name, logo, interface, underlying code, docs, and recipes are owned by Private Language. You’re welcome to reference BIG Tools in your own work — say you used it, screenshot it, quote it — without asking. Please don’t clone the brand or claim the tool as your own product.

9. No warranty

BIG Tools is provided “as is” and “as available”, with no warranties of any kind, express or implied. We don’t promise the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or that the AI output will be accurate, complete, or fit for any particular purpose. Use your judgement.

10. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Private Language and its people are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, content, grades, opportunities, or profits arising from your use of BIG Tools. Our total liability for any claim related to the Service is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid us (during the beta, that’s zero) or (b) USD $50.

11. Termination

You can stop using BIG Tools and delete your account at any time from the settings area. We may suspend or end your access if you break these terms, or if we discontinue the beta. Sections that should survive termination (ownership, disclaimers, limitation of liability, governing law) will.

12. Changes to these terms

We’ll update these terms as BIG Tools grows. When we do, we’ll change the “last updated” date below and, for material changes, give notice in-product or by email. Continuing to use BIG Tools after the change means you accept the new terms.

13. Contact

Questions, concerns, or legal notices: reach us through the contact form. We’ll do our best to respond within a few business days during the beta.
